JIMMY’S ORIGINAL SONGS

EARLY YEARS
Ever since Jimmy was a kid, music was the most important thing in his life. He was always curious about a strange rhythm or tune he had never heard on the radio or TV, which played repeatedly in his mind.
It was just a novelty to Jimmy at first, hearing these sometimes merry little whistling tunes in his head as a curious 6 year old. Then much later, when he was around 10, he would start to write my first songs. Jimmy remembers the first song he seriously wrote complete with three verses and a chorus – a song called ‘Come Alive’ inspired by the title of some Self-Awareness books his brother Anthony had recently purchased. Jimmy would write the songs at the time with an old Jumbo acoustic guitar. He later taught himself to play the piano.
SONG DEVELOPMENT
From there, the more Jimmy’s fascination with music of all styles developed, the more he would try to write a song in those particular styles and mixing established genres like pop, reggae, rock, folk & country, creating something totally new.
Jimmy’s favourite influences for songwriting at the time were of course The Beatles, Donovan, Bob Dylan, The Moody Blues, Bee Gees and The Kinks. Jimmy was inspired by Artistes who had been on the scene for many years already or even were not performing any longer. Jimmy would listen to the records and analyse what made them special and appealing to other people.
SONG RECORDINGS & SELF PRODUCTIONS
Years later, Jimmy managed to purchase a Yamaha 12 track desk with a modern-sounding drum sequencer. From that moment on, Jimmy’s life changed as a songwriter in bringing that old back-log of songs. Learning how to build and produce new compositions, bringing them to life by mixing all the instrumentation and self-supplied lead with harmony vocals. Producing his own styles with complete professional sounding productions with all the instrumentation added. “It was a very long process but once you heard that finished mix coming at you in the headphones for the very first time, a most rewarding pastime”. It had of course, been something Jimmy had set out to do initially for a living many years before, just like his musical heroes.
Over the last 20 years of using this recording gear, Jimmy has produced many song productions. Among them were a lot of the things he used to write as a kid which developed into proper songs once he put a few instruments together and seriously produced them. Most of them were songs about people Jimmy admired and loved or just personal experiences as most writers do.
JIMMY’S FIRST ALBUM – DEDICATIONS
JIMMY’S FIRST ALBUM
Within a few years in 2011, Jimmy released his first album ‘Dedications’ on Itunes, Spotify, Deezer and many other download sites worldwide. It was a compilation of those songs he had dedicated to people he admired and respected.
SPIRIT – TRIBUTE TO GEORGE HARRISON
One of the songs Jimmy had originally composed in 2001 – shortly after the sad death of Beatle George Harrison was called ‘Spirit’. An independent record producer had heard it and liked the song a lot. He asked Jimmy to change his name to Jimmy Christian Blue and release it. It garnered success with radio plays from Billy Butler’s BBC Radio Merseyside slot a few times and was an instant favourite with Beatles fans and the wider public alike.
KATHLEEN
Another song ‘Kathleen’ all about Jimmy’s dear, hard-working, self-plagiarising late mother, was performed many times on Billy Kelly’s Mersey Radio and became a firm favourite with friends and fans alike.
Jimmy’s most played song was ‘Brother’s Projector Show’. A little tale in a song about Jimmy’s brother’s unique and creative attempts as his babysitter to keep him amused as a kid by performing a home-made kid’s character-filled production on the landing of Jimmy’s old cottage. The show he used to create on Jimmy’s behalf was an improvised affair with cardboard characters cut out of Jimmy’s old kids comics or painting books. The song was a firm favourite with listeners and still continues to be played on independent Mersey Radio.
TIMESLIP – THE BUBBLE
Jimmy has always had a fascination with time travel right from being a kid. There was an innovative Sci-Fi series years ago when he was growing up in the 70s called ‘Timeslip’. It featured the adventures of a time-travelling teenage boy and girl falling through a time portal fence on a disused Ministry Of Defence field.
Jimmy was so intrigued by this thought-provoking series and many years later in 2009, with the help of his new recording desk, he set about writing a song about it called ‘Timeslip-The Bubble’. Jimmy was then encouraged by a good friend to send it on to the person who organised their regular conventions dedicated to the popular programme. This was the Science Fiction writer and film producer Steve Hardy. Once he had sent it on to him, Jimmy forgot about it thinking he would be too busy to consider one of my home-made productions. But Jimmy was pleasantly surprised when he received a reply telling him he not only liked the song but he couldn’t stop whistling it at work all day, rivetted to Jimmy’s solo performance (of The) Timeslip Song.
He also invited Jimmy to the Timeslip 40 convention which was coming up attended by none other than actor Spencer Banks who played the part of Simon in the series and actor Cheryl Burfield who had acted the part of Liz, his partner in time. WOW!! It was a moment Jimmy will always remember when they both sat along with the rest of the invited cast and fans alike, rivetted to Jimmy’s solo performance Timeslip song accompanied by a newly purchased 12 string guitar. The song was featured on a limited edition CD along with a couple of my other songs ‘The Bubble instrumental backing track’ and ‘Star-Child’ in a commemorative goodie bag made specially for the convention.
Spencer’s immortal line ‘You’re through to the next round!’ will always reverberate in Jimmy’s mind as one of the highlights of a most unforgettable day for him as a songwriter. His song was instantly accepted by cast and fans alike at the convention which was held at The Plough pub in Cuffley, just less than a quarter of a mile from the Time Barrier field where the series was filmed. Jimmy’s other great memory of that perfect day was when Cheryl Burfield danced with her on-screen mother, 89 year old Iris Russell- to his song ‘Timeslip-The Bubble’ played on the pub’s PA system. A most Amazing memorable day for a guy who produced a song on his old home-made 8 track Yamaha Recording Desk. ‘Timeslip-The Bubble’ is now available on all download sites including Itunes, Amazon, Spotify, Deezer and many more.
DEADLY DOLLS
Following on from the success of ‘Timeslip-The Bubble’, Jimmy was asked by Steve Hardy to write another song for another convention he had planned in 2011. This time commemorating the 50th anniversary of Sci-Fi classic film ‘Village Of The Damned’ an adaptation of John Wyndham’s ‘The Midwich Cuckoos’. Inspired by the marching style theme of the initial popular movie made in 1960. Jimmy came up with the title ‘Deadly Dolls’ which was again performed ‘Live’ to the existing cast of the old movie at Alderham Village Hall, London. Again, it was well-received by the cast and fans at the convention and it was released as a limited edition CD in a goodie bag with items about the iconic film. RIDIN’ ON THE BUSES
This was a lucky follow-up when Jimmy was approached by a member of the convention team for the old comedy classic series ‘ On The Buses’ . He was asked to write a song for the ‘Classic Comedy TV series ‘On The Buses featuring the characters ‘Stan Butler, his comical sister ‘Olive’, miserable brother-in-law Arthur, Mum performed by veteran actress Doris Hare and Inspector Blakey played by comedy actor ‘Stephen Lewis’. It was a hit with the cast and a few of the other comedy actors from various 60s, 70s & 80s comedy classics of the time including Mike Abbott of ‘Bless This House’ and Spike actor Jeffery Holland from holiday camp drama -‘Hi-De-Hi!’
